Having worked for years in the school system with students with educational and medical disabilities gave me the basic knowledge to know about relevant laws and policies. Over the last few years, I have become a trusted advocate within the special education community while collaborating with parents, educators, administrators, and policymakers to improve the quality of education for students with special needs.
My journey as a special education advocate began with a personal experience with my son. Witnessing his struggles and the struggles of family members and friends with special needs children. I recognized the inequities and obstacles they faced in the education system. This experience served as a catalyst, propelling me to act and fight for the rights of those far too often marginalized.
My advocacy work encompasses several key areas. I strive to ensure that every child receives an individualized education plan (IEP) that meets their unique needs, enabling them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally with appropriate evaluations. I work tirelessly to promote inclusive classrooms and push for appropriate accommodations and related support services for students with disabilities.
Recognizing that education is not limited to the classroom, I actively engage with parents and families, providing them with guidance, resources, and emotional support. I empower families to become strong advocates for their children and navigate the complex special education system.
I firmly believe that education is a fundamental right for every individual, regardless of their disabilities. I’m driven by the vision of a society where all students have equal access to education and are treated with dignity and respect, not only in the classroom but in the community too.
